Behind the Lens — HALEY KNOX SALAY

 BEHIND THE LENS

Just a gal and her camera.

For as long as I can remember, I have had an innate desire to create, direct, and curate. In my early years, this took the form of countless dance routines I choreographed and performed with my sisters, dresses sewn from old curtains, and many partially-written novels. In early high school I found myself in a ‘digital media’ class, where I was first introduced to photography as an art form.

I immediately fell in love. I discovered a photo can capture a moment in a way nothing else can. It freezes time, evokes emotion, and allows you to preserve the most important memories.

After checking out the school camera for weeks on end, I was gifted my first camera — which came with me everywhere. I had all of my family and friends sit, stand and twirl as models, brought it along to document every family vacation, and won a few state-wide photography competitions.

In recent years, I rely my camera to not only capture beautiful people & places, but also to support me in a meditative practice, to encourage me to find unique perspectives, and, perhaps most importantly, to simply be playfully creative.
